Mac Mail - First Time Setup

This tutorial will show you how to set up the built-in mail program, "Mail," which comes with Macintosh Operating Systems.

Opening Mail for the first time, you will be presented with the wizard to start configuring the email client.

You will be asked to provide some general information about your email.

a. For Account Type, Select "POP" in the pull-down menu.
b. Enter a name in the "Account Description" field. This will be used to identify the account
c. Place the name you wish to be identified by in the "Full Name" field. This is can be your name, business name, or anything you like.
d. In the "Email Address" field, you will need to enter your SCTelco.net.au email address (example: user@sctelco.net.au).
e. For detailed assistance on any of the above fields, click on the "?" button in the lower-left corner of the window.

You now need to setup the mail program to receive your emails.

a. Enter "mail.sctelco.net.au" into the "Incoming Mail Server" field.
b. Enter your SCTelco.net.au login name in the "User Name" field. Note: Your login name should be in lower-case, unless specifically setup with uppercase characters.
c. Enter the password associated with your SCTelco.net.au account in the "Password" field. Note that SCTelco.net.au's mail servers are case-sensitive.
d. For detailed assistance on any of the above fields, click on the "?" button in the lower-left corner of the window.

You will now be prompted for information regarding the sending of outbound mail.

a. Enter "smtp.sctelco.net.au" in the "Outgoing Mail Server" field.
b. If the box labeled "Use Authentication." has tick in it, please remove it so it appears like example below.|
c. For detailed assistance on any of the above fields, click on the "?" button in the lower-left corner of the window.

You have now configured your Macintosh's mail client to send and receive mail through SCTelco.net.au. You will see an account summary of the service you just created. Please confirm that those details are correct, and click "Continue".

You now have the option to create another account, import mailboxes, or simply start to use your new account. Once you have finished, hit "Done".
